my fiance who grew up in italy, is back there with his daughters vacationing right now... he called me tonight and asked me, "how strong is our relationship?" because he wants to talk about fighting for full custody and moving to italy NEXT YEAR! w etalked about this happening in 10 years, when the kids are old enough to legally decide for themselves, but next year... i was like, "we're not married... what am i supposed to do there..." he said we would get married.. we're not even finantially stable, but he has a very good rep there and was already offered two outstanding jobs at places he used to work... i am very flustered and confused and scared.. but this is his dream... this would make him so happy and i do love him and i want to spend my life with him, and i would love to move to italy, but ive never even been there yet... my family is here, my friends are here... his fam and friends are there, but his kids are here..im not terribly worried cause i doubt his ex wife will ever agree to let the kids go, but what if she does? what do i do? for me, for him, and for us?!
Answer on Move to make him happy, stay to make me happy?
These are the things you REALLY need to think about before making a decision.
1- Are you willing to move to a place where you don't know anyone except your bf and his family? What if you don't like it, are you still willing to stay?
2- What if he does get full-custody of his daughters? Are you willing to be a full-time stepparent to them and do you really know what that entails?
3- Have you guys talked about both of your futures and what you each want? Do they match up or do you guys disagree about anything from having more kids, to religion, or whatever?
4- Can you be happy there? Do you really think you can? If you think you can then great, but if you have hopes and dreams that involve staying where you are now then you need to realize that you'll be making a huge sacrifice for your bf.
Love is an awesome thing, especially early on in the relationship, but you've got to think ahead to the future. Think about the worst-case scenario that could happen if you moved, could you handle it? Do you love your bf enough to stick it out if you hate italy, don't like being a step mom, and have to deal with the ex wife on a constant basis? I'm not saying to be selfish or anything because being in love is a huge sacrifice in itself, but just make sure you think things through before moving or else you could find yourself in a huge bind later on. Good Luck!

How does the location of Italy affect how people trade?
Answer on How does the location of Italy affect how people trade?
My dear friend.....
Well....the most essential thing about Italy is the ideal location in the center of the Mediterranean Sea which Italy is surrounded by on "three sides"....I mean the East, West and South is surrounded by "water" ...(Only in the North Italy boarders to Austria and Switzerland)-
So.....anytime a country has such easy access to "the Sea" it's the optimal source for trading honey ! Especially down South at the "Street of Messina" (which separates the mainland from Sicily) you should see the traffic at this narrows baby....it's like in a "bee-hive"....-smile- soooooooo many ships, freighters, container-cargo-ships, etc. pass by there....really incredible !
Italy itself is a most beautiful country and the people are very outgoing and friendly....I just love Italy to the max and plan to go back very soon...-smile- Wish you all the BEST for the future ! Greetings from Germany with all my love and care.....your riend.....Annette****

Answer on Top 15 Best Football Team In The World ?
I agree with you from a historical perspective, the teams you listed are the best in the world. For the future, teams in the fastest growing league in the world will fast become the best teams in the world.
The best American football teams, basketball teams, baseball teams, ice hockey teams are all located in the United States. With America embracing soccer football and with MLS revenues growing explosively, it won't be long before American teams dominate the soccer football scene as well. With the fast growing economy of Brazil, I expect Brazil to have super clubs in the future as well. Europe will no longer be the exclusive domain of the super clubs.

What do you think about italian?
we have just going to italy?
Answer on What do you think about italian?
Italy has its ups and downs but when you draw the line it comes up as a great place. Very gregarious people, lots of sightseeing to do, got to love the cuisine, nice weather (most of the time).
The language is very musical (especially if you come from a non-latin country), rather easy to learn if you put your mind to it.

Are there soccer games in Europe in June 2010?
My husband and I are taking a 6 week long trip to Europe from June 2-July 10th. We are hoping to experience as much as possible during this time and I thought it'd be great to go to a soccer game somewhere in Europe during that time, as it is not popular where we are from. I looked online and it appears that the world cup is during June 2010 in South Africa, where we will NOT be. Are there any other games anywhere in Europe during that time? We will be in Ireland, England, Italy, Greece, Romania, and Spain. Thanks!
Answer on Are there soccer games in Europe in June 2010?
In the countries you are visiting there will be no league games on - the season ended earlier this year due to the World Cup, as you pointed out. But you might still be able to catch some lower league games at local grounds, although especially in the countries whose teams have qualified for the World Cup (i.e. all of them except Ireland and Romania) people will rather want to watch the World Cup instead of doing anything else. If you can't find a live football game, you might want to give public viewing a try. Especially in England, Spain and Italy, many games will be shown on big screens in the open air with large fan crowds watching and cheering. Same goes for pubs, of course.

How can I transfer an IRA account to Europe?
I have an IRA account in the U.S. I have since moved to Italy. My investment house in the U.S. will not transfer my account to Italy due to international laws and I cannot take a full cash disbursement because the U.S. taxes will be very high. Are there any companies in Europe that will accept an American IRA and be it's custodian for me?
Answer on How can I transfer an IRA account to Europe?
You should be able to find a contact in Italy that can maintain the US IRA for you; maybe try one of the larger US brokers or fund managers (Merrill, Fidelity, Citi?) who have an office near you and who will be the custodian and/or manager for you. You don't need to physically transfer the IRA account to Italy (which may constitute a 'withdrawl') but rather you need to find a custodian with an Italian contact person -- doesn't really matter where the securities are kept does it?

What is the best way to dress while seeing Florence, Italy?
Can someone give me some guidelines? I'm not traveling with a tour group, just one other person. I understand that locals don't usually wear sneakers, so that's a sign that you're a tourist. What other things should I know? Should I wear jeans for trekking the sights? Khakis? I'll know to keep camera hidden, but what other things should I know to not identify myself as a tourist? Thanks!
Answer on What is the best way to dress while seeing Florence, Italy?
When in Florence, while it's "ok" to dress "US Casual", you will definitely feel like a tourist if you do. Everyone in Forence, Rome, etc. dresses well. Keep your personal belongings close to your body (wallet, cash, electronic equipment, etc.) I was in Rome just after Thanksgiving last year and heard of a woman (in our travel group) who was pickpocketed on the subway- the thief went into her handbag, removed a change purse containing cash, replaced the purse in her handbag and made off at the next stop. She didn't realize it until she went to make a purchase and saw that her cash was gone!
Don't worry about not identifying yourself as a tourist. I think it's more important to be respectful to your fellow travelers and the locals. Try to use the language as best you can- don't be ignorant and speak only english. That will set you apart as a tourist. If you're not sure how to say something in italian, ask.

Is moving to Italy Rome a good idea with regards to my situation?
Hi im 16 years old and I have found great interest in Italy Rome, their culture, their art, their music, their foods, their language and their personality's fascinate me. I understand that it is possible to just apply to a university there when I turn 18 in two years but im sure its not that simple applying is one story and actually getting in is another story. So please let me know if it is a good/smart idea to move to rome when I turn 18 with regards to these following facts-
1. I want to move when Im 18 ( is it safe at that age?)
2. I want to attend university in rome ( how difficult is it to get accepted?)
3. Id like to study (english) literature in rome and Italian culture
4. I have completed all levels of Royal conservatory of Music ( can i get a part time job as a piano teacher?)
5. I am not rich / parents make average income / i have no income as of now ( will i be able to financially survive ?)
6. I am just learning Italian ( how well will i have to speak their language?)
7. if/when I move i will be moving alone with no connections in Italy
So basically i want to live in rome italy as a student hoping to find a part time job as a piano teacher, is this a good idea or should i wait and save more money? please answer all of my questions and in the end state your opinion towards my original question, thank you! :)
Answer on Is moving to Italy Rome a good idea with regards to my situation?
First of all, it depends on your nationality. You wrote about "Royal", so I suppose you are British. Then, when you'll be eighteen years old you'll can stay in Italy with no restrictions. Instead, for people outside EU a visa is required.
You should also post this same question (perhaps in a year or something), translated into Italian, to the Italian "Yahoo! Answers", that is it.answers.yahoo.com.
In Italy there is a university specialized in foreign students, at Perugia. Look here:
http://www.unistrapg.it/english/
Being Rome a big city, housing is quite expensive there. At Perugia or in other small towns you are better off.
Then, your questions:
1. At that age is safe, but you'd better don't get drunk alone at late night in a pub.
2. I don't know.
3. There are courses of English literature, Greek/Latin literature, Italian literature. It looks weird, but history of Italian art is part of Italian literature course.
4. In Italy there is no shortage of piano teachers, and I think it will be hard to find such a job.
5. Instead, there is a shortage of people knowing perfectly English, and so a job that requires such a knowledge can be attainable (international telephonist, international concierge, international restaurant waiter, tourist guide). In Italy many people know a bit of English, but no one is interested in hiring a person that doesn't understand Italian. So you should improve your Italian.
6. In Italian universities all lessons and examinations are kept in Italian language, even when the subject is English literature and the teacher is English. So, the minimum level of Italian you need is what is enough to understand a university lesson. In addition, if you want to specialize in Italian culture you should also understand ancient Italian (like Dante's).
7. You can get there alone and then make friends over there. But I think that at least for board and lodging you should ask to university office.

He recently moved to texas for med school. I asked how his new home is? he said its a little empty it could use a women's touch. So i said well dont worry you will make friends soon. So he said that wasnt the anwser he was hoping for.I also suggested making friends in church since he hardly knows anyone there. He replied by saying im sure things will work out but if they dont can we still chat..what did he mean? Oh and the other day he texted me saying hey how are you? so i was like good you? So he said he was a little bored at a club he was watching tv with a friend/cousin. So i said sounds like your making friends? I asked him no dancing? Hes like well i usually dance with a female friend since your not here...so i said well dont let me stop you from enjoying yourself. He also asked what i consider a nice birthday gift? Venice in one day...suggestions?
My aunt lives in Northern Italy (Udine) and I'm staying with her for 5 nights while I'm studying abroad in Spain. One of the things that I want to do is either take a day trip to Venice during the middle of my stay with her (first train to venice, last train to leave venice, so I can make the most of it), or fly from Spain to Venice, at night, get a room, and wake up early and have all day to sightsee before arriving at my aunt's house. Either way, I'll only have a day to see Venice, and I need help figuring out what must-see places Venice has to offer.
I know one day might not be enough to see Venice, but it's mostly just a place to visit for me since it's about 90 minutes from my aunt and it's worth going to. I'm sure I'll be back at some other point in my life, but for now, I'm just a 20 year old who has never left the united states and wants to see as much of the world as possible, so for now I'm perfectly content with only having a day to explore the city.
Thank you so much for your suggestions!
Answer on Venice in one day...suggestions?
You can actually cover quite a bit of Venice in a single day; what's must see really depends on your interests. Some of the things I like to see aren't in the guidebooks at all. Although you won't be able to spend a lot of time in all the museums, Venice is pretty compact and easily walkable. I would recommend that you take the vaporetto down the Grand Canal from the station to San Marco and/or back. I usually walk, but the boat down the canal gives you some views that you can't get otherwise and you'll have all day to walk. Just wandering the canals and bridges, you'll come across a lot of very nice art and architecture. You should visit the Doge's Palace and St Mark's Basilica in that area and see the Bridge of Sighs while you're around San Marco. I particularly like the Arsenale with the old lion sculptures. Definitely stop at the bridges for photos. Both Rialto and the Accademia Bridge are particularly scenic spots. If you're exploring the route between Accademia and Rialto on the Accademia side of the canal, look for Visio Virtu - they make artisan chocolates and gelato. The gelato is especially good. If you're interested, you could visit either the Accademia or the Guggenheim galley while you're in that area or Palazzo Grassi often has interesting exhibits. If you're interested in the glass-making, you can take the vaporetto to Murano. If you happen to go by the Hotel All'Angelo step onto the adjacent bridge and look across the canal to see the angel. Supposedly a hole was blown in the wall during an exorcism and the angel was put in place to prevent the demon from returning.
There are lots of places to eat, but the food will generally be cheaper and sometimes better if you're away from the immediate vicinity of the major tourist sites. One thing to watch out for is things priced per etto (e.g., branzino - sea bass). It's good, but that's the price per 100 grams before the fish is prepared or cooked. You'll be presented with a fish for approval - that big, beautiful fish will be delicious, but it can cost you up to 100 euro just for the fish for lunch. You can always select a smaller fish or avoid things priced by weight on the menu. It's also nice to sit in the Grand Caffes in Piazza San Marco, but be aware that an espresso can cost you 8 euro if you do. There's the cover charge, table service, and if the music is playing there's a charge for that too. It's a nice experience as long as you're aware of the cost.
The first train from Udine is at 4:28 am - a regional train that takes 2 hr 14 min to get to Venice (9 euro 2nd class). The first fast train leaves Udine at 5:50 am and takes 1 hr 32 min to Mestre, but note that it does not go into Venice you'll need to hop a train across the causeway for the last ten minutes of the trip (23 euro 2nd class). There's a regional train as late as 11:56 pm which will put you in Udine at 1:45 am.

Where besides the popular places, should i visit in Rome, Italy?
Headed to Italy this year.I want to see how the natives live.I dont want to be just another tourist
Answer on Where besides the popular places, should i visit in Rome,Italy?
The supermarket, and McDonalds. I don't know, I was only there for a few days at the end of a Topdeck tour and too tired to go explore further places like Pompeii.
The supermarkets are pretty amazing though, so much fresh produce and cheese and cheap wine. And they serve wine/beer at Maccas apparently.
Go for a wander with a map (and some sort of pocket translator or dictionary if you're not too fluent in Italian) and eat at the cafes and restaurants away from the tourist areas [check if they close most things in the middle of the day like the Spanish do], and just wander.
If you haven't found a place to stay, then stay in a hostel or a place like Camping Roma so you can talk to other travelers/tourists and work out what to see.
Can I come back there with you? :P

How many days does it take to send a letter from Michigan to Italy?
..if I use regular postage? which is 94 cents to send a 1 ounce letter. Does anyone know? Please let me know if you know, thank you!
Answer on How many days does it take to send a letter from Michigan to Italy?
These posts all say between 7-10 days. Those are pretty good averages, but no one mentioned the very real possibility that it may never arrive at all. The Italian post is notorious for losing letters and packages.
In 10 years of correspondence back and forth, about 10% of the items have arrived in 4-7 days, 70% of items between 7-10 days, and 20% of the items sacrificed to the italian mail gods (or nasty postal workers with an appetite for skippy peanut butter).
Good luck!

How can expand on writing in detail about the two themes in Romeo and Juliet?
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is set in the city of Verona in Italy and revolves around two important and timeless themes ; love and conflict. These two themes are what have enabled it to still be read and performed as it excites the audience and allows their imagination to flow. This is my first paragraph of the essay that I have wrote any ideas or suggestions (baring in mind i'm aiming for A*) Thankyou in advance :).
Answer on How can expand on writing in detail about the two themes in Romeo and Juliet?
seems like a quality 1st paragraph to me, you're on your way.

Does anyone know of a ceramics program in Italy?
I am a college student, and I am looking for a ceramics program to participate in for fun (perhaps over winter or summer break), and I thought a program in Italy would be exciting. I am on an intermediate skill level in ceramics. Does anyone know of any ceramics programs either in Italy or anywhere else that may be fun? Or do you know of any organizations that host art trips? Thanks!
