How would two 19 year old American girls fair in England for a year?

We have the choice to live in Europe for a year. The choice has come down to either England or Italy. We are leaning more towards England because it would obviously be less of a language barrier, however neither one of us have been there before so we don't know what its like. I've been to Italy before and loved it, but I've always wanted to go to England. So, what would England be like for two young American girls? And if you think that England would be our best bet, could you suggest some cities and tell us why you suggested them. Thanks so much for your help!

Get an insurance on a second car?

Hi all,

i am italian and i have a car insurance in my name since 10 years with no claims.I am living in Ireland now and i bought a car and when i asked for the insurance 3 different companies told me that if i want to use my no claim bonus on my irish car,i should cancel my italian insurance. But is this legal?I mean...i need to have a car insurance in Italy,i come back home often.Plus,in italy if you buy a second car you can use the bonus also in the second insurance. But,i am not very familiar with irish law, could you please help me?

Thanks

Valentina

Answer on Get an insurance on a second car?

Just do what the insurance company says and cancel your Italian insurance. The insurance cover you will get in Ireland will, in most cases, cover you for all other European countries anyway.

The reason they ask you to cancel your Italian insurance, is to ensure you cannot make two claims in the event of an accident.

*edit*

Confusing,but...... Forget what you can do in Italy, you are in Ireland. I take it you have a car in Italy which you use when you go there. What happens to that car when you are in Ireland? If no one uses it can you not get temporary insurance for the time you are there.

*edit2*

Let's see if I have this right. You have a car in Ireland that is used only by you, and you don't use it outside of Ireland. You have another car in Italy, which you use when you go there, but when you are not there anyone can use it. Why not get the other users of your 'Italian' car to share the cost of the insurance between them, thereby making your 'Irish' insurance more affordable as you could use your no claims bonus. (Although there may be some communication difficulty)

As has already been pointed out, a second car in most of Europe means you have to 'start from the beginning' when insuring it.

Anyway, whatever you do .......Good Luck

Travelling Alone?

I'm a 19 year old male, and I will be traveling alone (my friends are all busy) to Germany and Italy, anyone have any advice on what to bring (cash vs credit) and would be safe? I'll probably be leaving the states in about a week.

Thanks

Answer on Travelling Alone?

Have you traveled abroad before? Traveling alone can be fun, and it can certainly be safe, but you need to be aware of your surroundings. Too much alcohol can be dangerous (if you get in a touchy situation, it's good to have all your wits to use to get out of said situation!). Know and follow local laws.....when in doubt, follow the example of the locals around you.

Bring a variety of funds......cash, traveler's checks, and credit. You usually get the best exchange range with traveler's checks. I've found debit cards don't always work well in other countries. Pack light and you'll be less tired at the end of the day. Some clothes can be worn multiple times or washed in the sink and be dry by morning.

Beware pickpocketers, especially in Italy, but really in any crowded places.....some public transportation is so tight that I've had my backpack opened more than once (nothing valuable there) and one guy actually had his hand in my pocket looking for a wallet.

As a young woman, I've traveled alone in the USA, Spain, and Korea, with a minimum of problems. Stay alert, avoid isolated locations, ask if there are any areas of town you should avoid, and above all, have a wonderful trip!

What's the name of a this song (i think it's violin)?

Are homophobic attacks on the rise in Italy?

I red it on the ILGA twitter channel that attack on gay people are on the rise in Italy. Any inside info what's happening over there?

Answer on Are homophobic attacks on the rise in Italy?

Unfortunately yes.

In Italy there's homophobic attacks rise.

It started when a stupid man stabbed a gay couple in Rome. Then, always in Rome, gay people are hit with letter bombs, aggressions etc...

Italy has always been homophobic and bigot: that's why I will come back to my Country of origin, Denmark.

Interrail in Italy? Suitcase?

Hi.

I am going to travel by train in Italy. I decided to buy interrail one country pass just for Italy.

I will travel from Rome to Naples and back, from Rome to Florence and from Florence to Milano.

I am trying to find out how is it with necessary seat reservation. I still can?t find any info about that. Are there any trains without necessary seat resarvation betweeen these cities? (I don?t need fast trains)Does anybody have an experience with this in Italy?

The next point of my question is: Is it difficult travel by train witzh a suitcase? I mean are there enought place where to put it?

Thanks for reply :D

Answer on Interrail in Italy? Suitcase?

Everything GuFo told you is right as usual. However, you might find it cheaper to just buy individual tickets here than to se a pass for these trips. There are some regional trains running between Rome and Florence which take around three hours for the trip and cost 10.50 euro each way. The fast trains cost 44 euro (2nd class) and take 1 hr 10 min. With an interrail pass, you would need to reserve a seat at a cost of 10 euro each way. There are discounts available for advance purchase of the fast train tickets (15% for 7 day; 30% for 15 day). There are also some promotional fares on individual tickets. On the Trenitalia site, you would choose the fare called Global Pass to make just a seat reservation with a pass. http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.js…

the 2nd class is 16.10 euro vs 44 euro in 2nd class for a fast train for individual tickets. The regional train takes around 4 hr for the trip as opposed to 1 hr 35 min for the fast train. You would save the 10 euro seat reservation if you use an interrail pass and take the regional train though.

There are no regional trains directly from Florence to Milan, but you could take a regional train to bologna and another from there to Milan. The connection times may not be very convenient.

Why is it so hard for me to step out of my shell and make new relationships?

I just feel like I have nothing to say for myself. I dont work or go to school I just depend on my dad. I dont have girlfriends anymore cause they all betrayed me in one way or another. All I have left is my now ex boyfriend who calls when he feels like it. I messed our 5 yr relationship up by going to italy.

Now I have no one but my parents and a little money.

I live in Michigan and want to move badly and start and new life & work somewhere.

I could get a degree online.

Where should I go, What should I do & How can I make new friends when Im so shy?

Answer on Why is it so hard for me to step out of my shell and make new relationships?

you have to come out of your shell.. nobdoy will do it for you..

u have to go out and try and meet people. and take things slow and steady, do not rush or expect fast results

you need to get over your boyfreind, and meet other people..... unless u wanted to marry him, then u should just let him go.... u cannot cry over him forever...

and u need to learn a profession that interests u.... figure out what u like, and what u can do with yourself... maybe meet a career counsellor, and work part time somewhere in the meantime for some money

Why do people single out Italy/Spain/France as non-white, yet ignore Southern Slavic countries?

Why do people see France/Italy/Spain as non-white countries yet ignore Southern Slavic countries like Serbia, Romania etc. where most people are actually dark skinned?

The average Frenchman has dark brown hair, light eyes and pale skin.

The Average Italian has Brown hair, dark brown eyes and pale skin

The Average Spaniard has dark brown/Black hair, light eyes and pale skin

But the average Romanian/Serbian/YugoSlavian has Brown Skin, dark brown eyes and jet-black hair.

So why do people think Latin-language speaking Europeans are non-white, yet think nothing of Slavic countries where most people look like Indians (from India)?

Travelling From Birmingham to Italy via train with 2 small dogs?

I want to plan a holiday to italy, but via train only, but want to know is it allowed with two small dogs?

If so , will both dogs need passports , injections ? ect

What trains will allow dogs ?

What hotels are dog friendly?

How long will the journey take?

What else would we need to think about?

Genuine replys only please, silly replys will be reported.

Worth 10 points for the best answer

Many thanks in advance for your answers

Answer on Travelling From Birmingham to Italy via train with 2 small dogs?

Both dogs will need pet passports and to get pet passports they have to have had the relevant rabies injections and the blood tests to confirm that the immunity it in place.

Google and look up Pet Passports. But, the process to get the passports in place will take months as the uptake and working of the vaccinations depends on the dogs ability to absorb and take the vaccine.

Before you look at the other questions you need these in place and it takes time. Then you will be need to be aware of the treatment that needs to take place in Europe before they come back into the UK and that needs to be done twenty fours before return. All of this is expensive as well.

The you can phone and talk to Eurostar about the dogs travelling (not with you) in the correct crates etc etc.

I need help with travel!!!?

I am going to go to Holland, Netherlands next summer to see my mom. I need help plannign the trip. i am going for 2 weeks. I really want to see italy! I just do not know where to start! Like flights and so forth!! Can anyone please help me! Thank you

Answer on I need help with travel!!!?

There are not a lot of airports in the Netherlands that are accessable from america. The best thing that you can do is fly to paris and take a bus to paris du nord (International High Speed Rail Train Station) and take a train to either the city of Rotterdam or Amsterdam. If your mom doesn't live in either city you can take another train or bus (about 1 hour radius of the country from either two cities from there). Flights cost about $2600 roundtrip from NYC use us airways or air france. Trains are about $120 roundtrip from Paris use thalys high speed rail.

If you want to go to italy flying and trains cost the same going into milan naples rome venice and san marino. Which is around $400 roundtrip from the netherlands. Flights lufthansa Trains are a mix of different ones.

Flights to paris about 20 hours roundtrip

Flights to rome 6 hours roundtrip

Trains to Amsterdam 3 1/2 hours roundtrip

Trains within the Netherlands 1 1/2 hours roundtrip

Trains to Rome 36 hours roundtrip

The best way to travel from Lyon, France to Bolzano Italy?

I am visiting a friend from Lyon in about two weeks (just decided now).

I need to figure out the best - fastest, quickest way to Bolzano.

I am not from Europe - and I don't speak French, so I have no idea where to start.

What are the common train companies here - what is the best one. Is there customs to worry about? I mean I dont have a French passport if I do decide to fly.

Should I stop over in Milan or Venice?

Does anyone have any advice from personal experience with train networks from France to Italy?

It is greatly appreciated!!

Answer on The best way to travel from Lyon, France to Bolzano Italy?

The most efficient way to go would be to fly from Lyon to Bologna and take the train from there. http://www.skyscanner.it/ Verona would be even quicker, but there isn't a direct flight there from Lyon. I make the trip from my home near Verona to Lyon occasionally for business. When I go to Paris though for a weekend, I usually take the night trains.

The German train website is a good option for finding train schedules throughout Europe: http://www.bahn.de/i/view/USA/en/index.s… . Trains will take 11 to 18 hours and require multiple train changes. The most efficient train option is to take the train from Lyon to Dijon to connect to the night train running between Paris and Venice at 11:21 pm. You can sleep on the train until Verona (7:25 am) and change to a train to Bolzano there. Other choices require more train changes.

Venice is out of the way for the trip, but you could take the night train all the way to Venice if you want to visit there and then backtrack on the train to get to Bolzano. Milan is certainly another option on the route between Lyon and Verona if you're interested in that. This really depends more on your interests and how much time you have.

This isn't like the airlines where you choose from many different companies. Each country has it's own national railroad.

You might find this site useful for train travel here in Europe: http://www.seat61.com/ . There are links to the different national railroad sites where you can price tickets. Note that there are often discounts for early purchase of tickets although with your time window you may have already missed the availability of the "Smart fare" discount on the night train.

Student accomodation in Bologna?

I will be studying in Bologna, Italy this fall. I hear it is hard to find accomodation. Anyone know of any websites (in English or Italian) that help with this sort of thing?

Answer on Student accomodation in Bologna?

Are you looking for a room or for a flat?

I live in Bologna and it's not so difficult to find accomodation, in few days of local research you should be able to work it out.

It can be more difficult if you want to find a room while still being abroad, because usually people want to see you etc.

http://www.postoletto.com is one of the most used sites by students for looking for accomodation.

Who Pulls the weight at your House? Wife or Husband?

I have been married for a little over a month now. Things have been a little crazy but starting to settle down. Now, i have to admit that I do almost all of the cleaning, cooking, paying the bills myself. When a family member asked who does all that stuff, I said we share some stuff cause I like to cook and be organized. She basically negated that and said i dont know what im doing and I dont clean things right. She gives me NO Credit!! granted yea, I was not the pro as to how to clean and what to use to clean. But eventually I learned how to clean and have been teaching myself how to cook healthy meals and meals that I can take left overs to work. I really want to share with you what she does and I hope Im not the one thats crazy.

In the morning, she takes an hour shower(nice water bill, but whatever) she leaves her cloths and wet towel on the bed when there is a darn basket like 2 feet from the bed she could just throw in there, and the wet towel on the bed is so annoying cause it makes the bed smell. During the day, she always says she doesnt have time to talk or do anything cause she is so busy.. I went to her work yesterday and i literally was there for 20 minutes and saw not 1 person come in and no pile of work on her desk. When we get home(most times me before her). She stays in her work cloths and hangs out on the couch and watches her recorded TV(which I like but I dont give a sh*t about). I cook dinner, she comes from a family that can cook and she is a VERY picky eater. Im no flipping Chef Ramsey or anything but I think my food is ok. She critizes my food mostly, unless its a brownie or something easily made(apparently I can't f*ck that up). I mean I dont ask her to help me cook but maybe help me do the dishes so I can sit down and relax or cook one night for me. By about 9pm she already heads off to bed and leaves me there cleaning up and getting stuff ready for us in the morning.(sex life, whats that?? We only did it like 3 times when we were on our Honeymoon trip to Rome, Italy, mostly she was too tired, only one time she wore something sexy for me) When I complain to her about it she says I throw a tantrum like a girl or Im more like a girl than she is. I mean seriously if I was like her, our place would be a disaster 24/7. Anyway, i also find it funny that she buys this sexy stuff from victorias secret(not just underwear, like lingerie stuff) ad she never wears it for me. Its kinda weird. Obviously I know there is nothing going on behind my back. i know she loves me and all but Ive been stressed out with all the work and Im really starting to feel like im the slave. Well we obviously have been in a fight since sunday pretty much. I kinda went crazy this morning because she had an hour to get to work and get ready and I was already late and she told me I had to take out out our dog when I was already late from picking up my boss(we carpool, and Im late a lot of times because of this). Ive gotten in trouble a few times because of this reason. I know mostly my fault cause I dont get up at 5am so i can do all this stuff before I leave for work right?? Im the as*hole?? I take them out every morning and get up extra early to do it.. She only does when she has like 3 hours before work or its a saturday and Im working in the morning.

Does anybody else think Im nuts or is she being a spoiled brat, doesnt ralize how good she has it? I seriously for one day would love to video-tape her andshow her exact what she does all the time.

Honestly I would never ever complaign if she just showed a little bit of appreciation or showed me how much she loves me lately.

We are so early into our marriage(been dating for 5 years, engaged for 1 1/2 years) that we have been fighting like this and here Im the one feeling like I am the jerk and treat her like crap.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Answer on Who Pulls the weight at your House? Wife or Husband?

it sounds like she thinks that if you choose to do those things when you get home - thats your choice. she chooses to sit & watch tv. she's a spoiled ***** & as long as you continue to do everything, why would she have to get off her *** & help? i can tell you this though, the first year, no matter how long you've previously been together, is the hardest. thats when your figuring out whose responsibilities are what, etc. hang in there - it'll get better!
