we have a 2 week holiday coming up and my girlfriend had the nice idea of going to Italy and staying at her brothers because it would be a nice break from school. the issue is, my parents are very restricting and protective when it comes to me doing anything "risk taking" because im their only child. when i asked them if i could travel with her before, they responded with a vigorous "no WAY" and their argument was that i was still young, and that if anything happened to me (car accident etc..) it would equal death to them since i would be in a foreign country far away from where they are. i responded to that by telling them that if i were to get into a car accident, that it can happen at any place and any time, not necessarily over seas, but they would stick to their point that my absence causes them to get overly stressed and worried. my mom starts to make me feel guilty by using her heart problems against me and i just end up staying quiet even though i got disappointed at their lack of trust. (they claim they trust me fully, but i disagree to some level)
all of this happened last year when my girlfriend went for the first time and i wanted to go with her. They said that 16 was too young and that when she goes again later on they would re-think the issue. I understood them before because 16 is a young age in the eyes of a parent even if i do feel like im responsible enough to go, and also seeing that im with someone i, and my parents fully trust.
but at the moment im 17. time has passed, i do feel more mature than before and i technically am much more responsible that other people my age. i have a job at an online magazine and i juggle that along with my exams and perform really good in school. im not a "party animal" as they say, im not involved in drugs/smoking/alcohol, and im also not struggling with peer pressure. also, have been with my girlfriend for more than 2 years so i feel very stable. you can exclude any idea of teenage stereotypes.
what is your point of view on this? would you let your 17 year old go on this trip? i do see my parents' point of view, but do you think they are exaggerating? do you think i am exaggerating? i feel like i have been working really hard this whole time to please my parents and to not have them worry about any of my issues, and i never broke a promise that i made to them. they even have a curfew for me and i stick to that even if none of my friends have it. i just want to have a little fun..
thank you :)
Answer on Do you think it's okay for a 17 year old to travel alone?
I would say no to this one.
My dad bought me plane tickets to go to London by myself when I was 14, but the major difference here is that I stayed with my Aunt! I'd be really hesitant in relying on SIBLINGS (even if he were my own kid!) to care for my teenager. I'm sure he is a responsible person, and I wouldn't be saying this with any intention to be mean to him or you guys...but I just wouldn't feel comfortable about it. And, as silly as it sounds, I would also say "You're 17...you only have one more year to go...go when you're 18!"
I would STILL prefer that you be older...like 21...if you're going to a place where you don't know anyone, but hey...you have your rights at 18 and I can't stop you!
Maybe I'm just a little over-protective after seeing Taken! But just remember...your parents aren't doing this to be mean...they're doing it because they think it's the best thing for you. They think they're protecting you. This isn't a 3 day weekend trip to a place that's 4 hours away. This is a trip to an entirely different country, where the rules are different, and the dangers may be increased! If something goes wrong, they can't just hop in a car to rescue you! It sounds silly, like they're exagerating on the "things that can go wrong", but I think it's very reasonable to think about these things.
I remember being a teenager (I'm only 25!) and feeling like my parents were just being jerks when they denied me the opportunity for stuff like this. But believe me, when you get older, you'll look back in the same way I am now. You'll understand later!

Recommend relaxing holiday in the sun!?
I'm looking to go away in June this year. I want somewhere where there's nice beaches and hot weather, but I'm not really a fan of all-inclusive, "touristy" places as I'm not really a fan of noise, drinking and overcrowding! Can anyone recommend a nice tranquil area in Europe, preferably around Spain or Italy or nearby countries? I'm not on a massively limited budget but I can't afford really upmarket places either :)
Thanks!
Answer on Recommend relaxing holiday in the sun!?
costa del sol, Spain the nearest airport is Malaga visit www.marbellaeye.com for holiday rentals and rent a luxurious apartment in a very lovely urbanization called Miraflores Hills and enjoy being close to Marbella and Puerto Banus and the lovely beaches and food also Tennis, golf courses...etc.
Thanks!

If the second world war was only between Germany and USSR (Russia), who would win ...?
First, it would not be a world war but I wonder why that Germany invaded Russia in one piece (not reached Moscow), and after terrible battles such as Stalingrad, the Russians (Soviets) expelled the invaders and invaded Germany and defeated completely ...
logical that this case had the help of American, British (including the Brazilian who fought in Italy) ...
Then, if the second world war was only between Germany and USSR (Russia), who would win ...?
Answer on If the second world war was only between Germany and USSR (Russia), who would win ...?
They still need to invade countries to get to the Soviet borders. It really is hard to answer that, because they did have a joint invasion operation in septermber 1939 where they invaded Poland together, and had a joint victory parade. Nazi Germany also had some secret bases inside the Soviet Union up North of it. I Believe the USSR would win, but with a lot more casualties (so far, President Medvedev has ordered a full count of deaths from WWII, and so far its reaching 29 million Soviet deaths, while during the USSR the official record was 20 million deaths). I do know that if America would not join the Second Front, then the whole world today would be under a red flag. The Americans came at the last minute of the war and took most credit. The war would last longer if America wouldn't come, but still would result in German defeat, and most likely the Soviets would move into France and all the other liberated countries. However we can only imagine would could have happened...no one will really know for sure. Natural Weather such as snow storms prevented the Germans from moving into Moscow, even though they were so close, and supplies were also postponed, until it was too late for Germany. They fought bravely for their lands future.
Edit: The answer above me "I want to help people" is wrong, because America and Russia were fighting pretty much 2 different wars (America fighting the Pacific War, and Russia fighting the Great Patriotic War). America did not join the Eastern front until late 1943 in the Invasion of Sicily, and still that is extremely far from the Soviet borders. One of the most largest turning points of the war (and the largest tank battle in human history) was the battle of Kursk, which had no allies support at all. America was not recovering from WWI, because the war was not on American Soil and America had the least casualties of the war, however they did not join the League of Nation, they were neutral which made them strong, though Russia wasn't becoming weaker either, they fought against the Japanese in 1938 and won the border war, and it was strong mainly from the 5 year plan, even though it did cause millions of deaths from starvation. America recovered from the wall street crisis (great depression) fast, and Germany was having huge inflation and Russia had high famine and poverty.

Question about Billtong?
Firstly i apologize for my english, i'm from Italy.
I would like to prepare some billtong here in Italy, i know how to build the billtong box but i don't know the mix of spices to put on the meat, is there someone that can teach me how to prepare the spices mix?
thankyou
Answer on Question about Billtong?
Tradtional biltong is made with course salt, brown sugar, course ground coriander and cracked black pepper.
If you want your biltong to have a bite... add chilli flakes or peri-peri. (The biltong is then called chilli bites)
You can add garlic as well.
Have a look at these sites for more info:

Is there a reason why most teams that are going to this world cup are generally wealthy and free states?
Looking at World Bank development data most states participating in the world cup are either high income (US, England, Italy, Spain) or upper middle income (Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico) and the large majority are classified as free countries by Freedom House with only a few Partially Free and Not Free states.
So the question is: Is there a corellation between how wealthy or how free a nation is and the chances it has to participate in the world cup, and if so how and why?
Answer on Is there a reason why most teams that are going to this world cup are generally wealthy and free states?
Those countries have the economy for kids to be able to play football while growing up. In most poor countries, kids have to work at an early age or do not have the money to afford sandals, let along football boots. The facts that they are able to enjoy their childhoods, that allows them to be able to concentrate on sports because it is a leisure.

Answer on Can you help me translate this in German language?
Hey Sara,
I am a native speaker. I translated the text but I didnt get the sentence with "mostly...". I changed/added some small words that it sounds better.

Hello, I'm Italian. I'd like to know if in United Kingdom trains are generally late?
In Italy trains are inefficient and much often they are on a 30-minute delay (sometimes a more than an hour)...
Answer on Hello, I'm Italian. I'd like to know if in United Kingdom trains are generally late?
Most UK operators run services between 80 and 95% on time, however people always remember the break downs, cancellations and disruption. Never the trans that are within 5 minutes of right time getting you to your destination.

How much would it generally cost to get a taxi in Italy?
Approximation per mile would be great.
Answer on How much would it generally cost to get a taxi in Italy?
It isn't that simple. The fares depend on what city you're in, how far you're going, and even what time it is (there may be supplements late in the evening, overnight, and early in the morning). Here in the town where I live a cab from my house to work runs about 5 euro and it's about a 4.5 km trip (a little less than 3 miles). A cab in Bologna from the train station to the airport runs about 15 euro (20 minute ride). A cab ride from either Bologna or Verona to my home about 75 km away would cost over 100 euro.

What is the break down of Italian currency?
I have a geography project due soon, and my assigned country is italy. For a part of it, i have to include the break down of their currency. For example, in the U.S. we have the 100 dollar bill, 50 bill, 20, 5, 1, then half doallrs, quarters, dimes, nickels , and pennies. but i don't know what the names of the coins are in italy. please help?
Answer on What is the break down of Italian currency?
No 25 cent pieces, but 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent pieces, 1 and 2 Euro coins.
5, 10, 20, 50,100, 200 and 500 Euro bills.
Wikipedia has several good pages on it, including pictures.
I do not know if the Italians have nicknames for their coins, but as the currency is rather new, it is likely that there are no nicknames yet.

Theoretical questions?
How would the world be different
1. If the Catholic Church had been suppressed by Rome, instead of it becoming the official religion
2. Luther did not nail the theses to the church.
3. the French had won the Seven Years War
4. Alexander Hamilton had not been killed in a duel
5. Italy and Germany had not unified
6. Central Powers had won the first world war
7. FDR did not die in office
8. Nixon beat Kennedy
9. Europe did not release their colonies
10. Clinton had attacked Al Qaeda
I have already written my responses, but I want to know if mine would make sense, so if anyone has any opinions on a single one or all of them that would be great.
Thanks

As Terry says, post the Qs individually, you'll probably get more answers that way.

Passport stamped for illegal entry in Germany?
I am an Indian, presently in Italy with a student visa and schengen visa.I was always convinced that I can visit any schengen countries with my schengen visa. Recently I visited to Germany and was inspected by the boarder police at Schonefeld Airport, Berlin and deported as 'an illegal entry into the federal territory of Germany'. My passport was stamped with UNLIMITED BAN ON ENTRY INTO THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY(Written in German Language).
But all this was unintentional.
Now I am forgetting....as there are lots countries..........besides Germany....
But my question is :
Will a country(any country, UK, USA, Canada) take this matter seriously while issuing me a visa?
Please help me guys....
UNLIMITED BAN ON ENTRY INTO THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY(Written in German Language).
Will the language help me as the consular officer can not understand...but he may ask me....what is this??? Please help me guyssssssss
One German Police officer at the Schonefeld airport told me that it will not affect in other countries case....but you must not re-enter the Germany in future.
Answer on Passport stamped for illegal entry in Germany?
This is common mistake people make & when I tell them they think I am idiot. When u have a Type D visa of one schengen country it means u cannot travel in other schengen countries, & this is what exactly u did. Now you must submit an appeal in German Embassy in Italy, because due to this breach, ur Italian Shengen Residence permit application can be effected, since u are banned in One Schengen country, next time when u will apply for visa u will be banned for whole schengen.
This must be sorted out immediately. Submit appeal with all related documents & seek help from German Embassy in Italy.
And yes SIS 2 has you as deported from Germany, means UK/Ireland etc. have this information & you will face problems getting the visas of other countries now.
Ignorance of law is no excuse, so when u say it was un-intentional, it was ur mistake anyway.
Good luck.

Good luck.

Train journey lenght?
i would like to know about the bus also, sometimes the bus is more regular than the train, if anyone knows any good web sites also this would be a great help. thank you xxxx i start my journey from italy take the ferry to croatia and from there i want to travel to sophia, any input??? id love to hear it
Answer on Train journey lenght?
This is a very useful site for train travel here in Europe: http://www.seat61.com/ . It has links to the various national train websites where you can find information on the schedules and prices of trains including Italy, Croatia and Bulgaria. By checking the country train sites for the schedules, you can find the times it takes to go from place to place. Here in Italy, there is a trade off between the fast trains and the regional trains which take longer with more stops and may require changing trains, but are cheaper. Generally, I take the fater trains to save the time when the fast trains are available where I want to go.

How to slant eyes?
I have almond shaped eyes and I would like my eyes to be slanted upwards in the outer corners. What is the name of the surgery used to achieve this and where can I find information, before and after pics, stories, ect? I've heard it's reall popular among women in Italy. Please post only if you're going to answer my question. Not post "don't get plastic surgery" or "why would you want to?" Thanks.
Answer on How to slant eyes?
I found a couple of threads about this on another site. Here is some info I pulled:
I think the look you want would only require tightening of the skin at the corner of the eye. This could be achieved by blepharoplasty, although you might want it done a little bit higher than usual. This page might be informative (the animation shows that it in the same direction as that which you desire:
http://www.eyerepairs.com/cosmetic.html
Another source said that canthoplexy might be an option.
My biggest suggestion for you however, would be to do some research to find a plastic surgeon with a good reputation and schedule a consultation. Or call a couple of surgeons and ask a professional directly.

Renaming Black History Month?
Choose one.
A) Americas all Nationalities Civil Rights, Cival Liberties and accomplishments month.
B) Indian, Mexican, European, Spanish,Asian, African, East Indian and Austrailan celebrated accomplishments month.
(listed by North American arrival with only two continents not covered: Antartica and S. America, the latter of which is actually covered if you are of any Latin race)
C) We segment all 100 + countries who have immigrated since the birth of the USA and represent human accomplishments by placing all accomplishements from above the equater in months January till end of June and all accomplishements from below the equator in months July till the end of December.
D) Try giving every immigrant race thier own month. This will be hard to give them a month much less thier own day, actually it's impossible. There is only one way to vote for this answer and that is to vote for (E) All presidents until now have been white or of Euorpean origin, therefore; Black History was made possible by white men for black men and women. If you want to make a change write your congressman and find out where the lobbyist are in your area. History belongs to every one. Is there a Jewish history month in Germany? nope. I'm sad we huamns want to hurt other humans because we think they are inferior due to skin tone or facial structure. Vote now. Vote for equality. Blacks deserve more than one month of history, but so do pepole from Asia, Iran. Turkey, Indonesia, Canada,Spain, Cuba,China, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Somalia,Russia, India, Philipines, Singapore, New Guinea, Japan,Greenland,Argentina, Venezuela,Germany, Italy. Your color Doesn't make you special; Your selfless contribution does. :)
E) Both C and D
Answer on Renaming Black History Month?
how about giving a fair and balanced version of history that encompasses the achievements of all no matter their color or ethnicity. maybe then no one would feel the need for their own month to make up for the lack of unbiased history being taught

Ice Skating in France and Italy. Where are the rinks to be found?
I'm driving through France and Italy, and stopping off in various places in each country.
I am also taking my skates :-)
Where are the ice rinks please? It may have some bearing on where I stop off!
Answer on Ice Skating in France and Italy. Where are the rinks to be found?
Here are lists for ice rinks AND figure skating clubs . . . honestly my French and Italian are not so great, so you would have to sift through these sites to see which are the rinks and which are the clubs. Hopefully there are links on the sites to the ice rinks/location info.

Would Christianity still be around if there was no Constantine?
I first heard on a documentary Constantine took on the religion because he claimed it gave him victory in battle. It would also unite the empire and he would be able to get forgiveness for killing his son and wife because the pagan priests would not forgive him.
After Christianity became stronger because he had taken it as his religion he stomped out all other opposing religions like the cult of Isis and all these other ones I hadn't heard of before. I also heard there were scrolls found in a cave in modern times that revealed Jesus in a much different way, that made him seem more human but it was hidden by the pagan priests where Constantine began burning all the other scriptures he did not want and basically cherry picking what would be allowed.
Do you think Christianity would have become what it is today without him ? Christianity seemed to lie dormant for a few hundred years until the Roman empire decided to accept it, only after they did it spread.
Sorry if this is incoherent and messy I'm just trying to recite what I heard some time ago.
" In York, Constantine consolidated his position and upon amassing his forces, he descended on the continent preparing for further action. He conquered the northern portion of Italy and on October 28, 312 he attacked and conquered Rome as a liberator. It is reported that at a time prior to the battle, he had experienced a vision of the monogram of Christ, inspiring him to march on to victory under its power. He adopted the symbol, which became a permanent part of his life, the sign of his troops and of the Empire"
Answer on Would Christianity still be around if there was no Constantine?
It probably wouldn't. Constantine adopted Christianity not only because he'd seen the sign, but because he also saw it a metaphor for uniting the empire under one emperor, as well as one religion. Until he became emperor, Christians were a much persecuted minority, though the excessive persecution of them by Nero did garner sympathy for them in Rome. By making it the official religion of Rome, it guaranteed that it would be dominant across Europe and the Mediterranean, as well as parts of Asia Minor. In fact, Constantine did not become a Christian until just before he died--he converted on his death bed, even though he'd made it the official religion long before.

Are there any historical examples of falling birthrates causing a demographic crisis?
Today, the birthrates of many countries have fallen below what is necessary to sustain their current population. A few examples include Russia, Japan, Italy, and Germany, whose populations are predicted to shrink in the next few decades unless birthrates rise.
The reason this is considered a crisis is that when people grow old, they no longer work, or have to work less. This puts strain on an economy, because you fewer people trying to support more people who are not working. Or at least that's how the theory goes.
Is this a new phenomenon? Or has it occurred elsewhere in history?
