Answer on Are there more Albanians in Italy or Greece?

Both Lucy and Jess do not know and I sense some racism-littered? increased crime rate? I do not know and I'm not guessing. there are official reports- immigration, illegal entries etc. and you should look for them. anything else is cheap bad taste propaganda.

Going to Italy to study interior design!!?

Hi there

I am planing on going to italy next year to study interior design, but it?s a hard decision to decite where to go and what schools are the best...whuff

Is there anyone that can help me .. some experience maybe :)

ps. and how do you find a place to rent ..

Answer on Going to Italy to study interior design!!?

I suggest you start by looking up the websites of the institutions you were considering. You will need to speak Italian. Expect that not only for daily life (shopping, etc.) you will have to speak Italian but that many of your classes will be in Italian.

Depending where you come from you might need a study visa. For this you should contact to closest Italian consulate or embassy.

Answer on Tip and info for studying abroad?

You don't say what your status is. Are you high school or college? Are you already accepted into a program?

If you are in high school, and not in program, check out AFS, YFU and Rotary exchange. THose are the top three.

This site will give you some basic information on being an exchange student.

Christmas carols and songs for children?

I'm a teacher from Italy. I need carols or songs for children, concerning Christmas, not traditional ones and possibly easy to learn, as my pupils are only 7 years old and don't speak English so well. Please, anyone can help me giving a link or title? I need songs and lyrics. Thanks

Answer on Christmas carols and songs for children?

Children can learn traditional Christmas songs with ease no matter what language they are sung in. When I was a kid I learned to sing Silent Night in Spanish.

What movies have the very best scenery or landscapes?

"The Very Talented Mr. Ripley" and "Under the Tuscan Sun" make me want to go and see Italy, for example.

Answer on What movies have the very best scenery or landscapes?

Brokeback Mountain and Legends of the Fall made me long for the west, as well as A River Runs Through It...lovely!

What Dreams May Come painted a beautiful, if fantastical dreamscape world, as did Legend (an oldie!).

I agree with Far and Away for Ireland (saw that area in real life:) and Lord of the Rings for New Zealand.

Cold Mountain has beautiful scenery as well....

Is my "new" clarinet mouthpiece new?

Hi, i got today my new (?) mouthpiece Pomarico from a very seriuos (looks like) internet seller.

I was surprised it was dirty with traces of vaselien and like tape traces above. the box was not looking like new either.

since its hand made kristall i tryed to make my mind like it is TESTED by the guy that makes it in italy.

thanks for your help (before I would start a nonsence ciber-war against thomann.de)

Answer on Is my "new" clarinet mouthpiece new?

Sounds bad. Can you return it? If not just sterilize it. I love a crystal mouthpiece but got mine from O'Brian. My clarinet prof in Masters study swore that when he visited a reed factory in France they let French clarinetist have forst pick . If they did not like the reed it went back in the box to send over here.

Trying to get the cheapest filght from the US to Italy, can you help?

PLEASE...all help is apprectiated. I'm trying to go Feb. 23, 2008 Thanks.

Answer on Trying to get the cheapest filght from the US to Italy, can you help?

This depends a lot on where you're starting and where you want to end up.

Right now, the cheapest direct flight I know is from JFK to Rome on Meridiana (operated by Eurofly). There's a promotional fare which appears to be still available for 385 euro (approx $550) round trip taxes and fees included. However, there's a flight on the 22nd, but not on the 23rd of Feb 2008. see: https://www.meridiana.it/IG/pages/bookin…

USAirways has flights from JFK to Rome or Milan on the 23rd for $568 with a connection in Philadelphia. The same flight starting in Philadelphia is $666.

This is a good website for finding the budget airlines that operate between a given pair of cities: http://www.whichbudget.com/

I fly between Italy and the US four or five times a year and often find it cheapest to fly through Amsterdam. There are Transavia flights between Amsterdam and several cities in Italy that can be very cheap. Last month, I had a round-trip fare from Bergamo for about 90 euro.

I went to San Juan Capistrano for Christmas last year and got a fare flying from Bologna to Amsterdam to Zurich and then to LAX that was $700 cheaper than just going to Zurich and taking the same direct flight to LAX. I took advantage of the opportunity and stayed a couple of nights in Amsterdam and still saved several hundred dollars. That worked because I booked this fairly late and there were none of the cheaper fares left for the direct flights though.

skyscanner and farechase http://farechase.yahoo.com/pages/include… are good sites for checking across multiple airlines and alternative airports.

Question for my Italiano amicos?

Buon Giorno,

My wife and I are going to visit Italy and I want to represent the U.S. well with good manners, appropriate ettiquette and proper observance of cultural customs etc. I will probably be posting a number of questions here in regards to the polite way to ask questions about various concerns. So, the first question is if anyone knows of a good forum that would be the best place to ask question about Italian language. In the mean time, could someone tell me how to introduce myself and my wife in a friendly (perhaps less formal) way. My name is Dave and my wife's name is Denise.

Thanks a lot for the help. If anyone would like to offer further assistance, my Yahoo mail is ogatta@yahoo.com

mille grazie

Answer on Question for my Italiano amicos?

The most popular forum for that purpose (not only for Italian language) is Wordreference http://forum.wordreference.com/

"My name is Dave and my wife's name is Denise."

The most common form is "Mi chiamo Dave e lei e mia moglie Denise"

("My name is Dave and she's my wife Denise")

"Mi chiamo" literally would be translated as "I call myself", in English it sounds silly, but it does make sense in Italian :)

Answer on What's a good hotel to stay in in Florence, Italy this february? Need wifi and low prices?

Try the Caravaggio on Piazza Independenza (http://www.hotelcaravaggio.it/). I am not sure if they have installed WiFi yet, but they were planning on it. One of the managers, Carlo, is quite a funny guy and very helpful.

I am happy to make specific recommendations. I provide personal tours and group tours of Rome and Europe. Feel free to contact me through my website listed below.

Who will be watching..........?

Italy vs Brazil on Feb 10

and

even though it's just a friendly, how much meaning do u think it will have in terms of who's the better squad right now

and

Don't u just love pirlo?

Answer on Who will be watching..........?

I will be.

I will be back in Milan :D and will def see it haha and the best thing is Im seeing Milan live the week before haha :)

I don't think it will mean much tbh. Unless you see a game with the full squads and both playing their hearts out, which is unlikely for a mid-season friendly.

Translation of degree certificates in to Italian?

Please let me knw as how i can translate my degree certificated in to Italian as i am applying for my PhD studies in ITALY. I am from India , Karnataka. wht is the procedure involved

Answer on Translation of degree certificates in to Italian?

Probably I'm not too informed but as far as I know it's not necessary you translate yr degree certificate into Italian to apply for yr PhD studies in Italy. In the past years I know it was enough to show the original certificate (possibly in English) and sign a certification in which you attest that you are titled to attend the University's courses.

I guess you should contact direct the University to know if this is still valid; in any case if you really need for a translated certificate I feel it must be put into Italian by an official translator.

If not (provided it's written in a language I know) I could help you with the translation if you email it to me.

My top five would be

1. Chialvert

2. Schmeichel

3. Boruc

4. Kahn

5. Ricardo

Answer on Goalkeepers (Rating)?

I'm glad you asked this question; goalkeepers are an integral part of any team despite often not recieving credit for their contributions.

Well, I'll just name current ones since I've only recently become interested.

Petr Cech--he's supposedly the best in the world, I didn't get to see him play though. Anyway, he's only 24, still got lots of room for growth.

Ricardo of Portugal--that guy was really the hero of the Portugal-England match--he could predict the direction of penalty kicks aimed at him. Just so well. And in the game against France--it was funny to see the Goalkeeper run out onto the field with the rest of them, I thought it was a good effort on his part though he was really pretty useless.

Buffon of Italy--of course. What a great keeper. I also happen to admire his decision to stay with Juventus, he wanted help the club that made him a star. I thought it was very generous of him, very sporting.

Lehmann--I thought he did really well.

Kahn--I hear that he's good. Also, he managed to get over his disappointment at not being able to play--remember the pep-talk he gave to Lehmann before the penalty shoot-out against Argentina? Pure class.

Oh well, that's all I can name now. Pity about Barthez really; he did so badly.

Im torn between my fiance and my father!! What do i do, Advice Needed?

Im 24 and met my fiance 2yrs ago, We became engaged 6 months after meeting, He is 33 and the craziest, funniest most romantic man i've ever met, I love him so much. He is a musician & can be a pretty wild guy. I was born & raised in Italy but moved to the US two & a half years ago and then i met my fiance & fell head over heels for him. I come from a wealthy family and im the only girl of 4 older brothers, My father has always been very protective of me, He also has a very strong personality, can be very arrogant, you could also call him obnoxious & very outspoken as he is not afraid to say what he really feels. Growing up he never approved of my boyfriends and they we're terrified to get on his bad side, Growing up i was a huge daddy's girl, My mother always told me that he was like that because i am the apple of his eye & that to him no man would ever be good enough for me. My father met my fiance when we went back to Italy to visit 3 months ago and my dad hated him, There was tension between them, He told me he didn't know why i wanted to marry him & that i would be better off coming back to Italy and marry someone from my homeland etc. When i also told him that my fiance and i decided that we want to elope somewhere to marry he disapproved strongly saying i deserve a big wedding in Italy & that he deserves the honour of walking 'his little girl' down the aisle. I never thought i wanted that kind of wedding until i seen how much it meant to my whole family. When i told my fiance he got angry with me saying im letting others influence me about a day that should be just about us, saying that my father just wants him out of the picture, He is still a bit pissed off with me but now i feel torn. I understand this may seem stupid to others but i don't know what to do. Any advice?

Answer on Im torn between my fiance and my father!! What do i do, Advice Needed?

It doesn't sound like your father is trying to get rid of your man, if he is saying, "have a big wedding so I can walk you down the isle".

Tell your man that you want a wedding where your parents can come and your father walk you down the isle. Make it in America, that way everyone is compromising. If your fiance says he doesn't want your father at your wedding or your family, your decision should be easy then: get rid of the fiance.

PS. you shouldn't have told your fiance the mean things your father said about him (this is to assume the things you stated were not said to his face)

How much is a 1840's caliber 44 gun worth?

we've had the gun in the family since early 1900's and was wondering how much it would be worth right now. engraved on the barrel is

"black powder only-made in italy-caliber 44"

thank you.

Answer on How much is a 1840's caliber 44 gun worth?

It will not be the high value you think. It is a reproduction. There was no Italy in 1840, just a set of principalities, city states etc. that were unified by Garibaldi in the 1860's. The reference to black powder is to keep you from trying to put a cartridge type of ammunition in it...also not available until the late 1800's, not 1840's. There was an Italian company that made muskets and pistols that were sold here in the 1980's and 90's to civil war re-enactors and black powder shooters...it is probably one of them. They sold for at most a few hundred dollars. Some came as a kit and you built them yourself. You can still buy these types...check out a Cabela's catalog (or on line) and you will find similar, brand new, items. Take it to a gunsmith and have it checked out, but make sure he knows you are not selling it to him, just getting an appraisal. There are also gun dealers who will do appraisals for you, but those will charge a fee. It isn't going to put the kids though college and clear the bills...
